I've seen this photo showing up on several blogs lately - mostly because of that little elephant, no doubt. But I wonder how many stumblers remember this beautiful little boy? I am not 'old enough' to remember him, but I know who he is anyway - thanks to many misspent Saturday mornings watching very old re-runs. This is Dickie Moore (born John Richard Moore Jr. on September 12, 1925) and is a former American child actor. Besides appearing in a number of major feature films, he was featured as a regular in the Our Gang series during the 1932-1933 season. (If you've ever been to the Spaghetti Factory, I'm sure you've seen his angelic face on their big projection screen while you waited patiently for a place to sit.) In addition to his Our Gang work, Moore is most remembered for his portrayal of the title character in the 1933 adaptation of Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist. He is also famous for giving Shirley Temple her first onscreen kiss. In 1984 he published a book about his and others' experiences as child actors, titled Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star: And Don't Have Sex or Take the Car. Moore is one of the few living Our Gangers from the original series. He's been married to actress Jane Powell since 1988. We saw Jane in person onstage last spring when she was included as a very special participant in a Pink Martini concert, and I believe Dick Moore was in the audience that night.
