 | Yobaba is a 57 year old married woman from Portland, Oregon, USA. "Everyday, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can."

Nov 6, 9:51pm (20 reviews) liberties http://www.aclu.org/lgbt/relationships/3...- "SAN FRANCISCO - The American Civil Liberties Union, Lambda Legal and the National Center for Lesbian Rights filed a writ petition before the California Supreme Court today urging the court to invalidate Proposition 8 if it passes. The petition charges that Proposition 8 is invalid because the initiative process was improperly used in an attempt to undo the constitution's core commitment to equality for everyone by eliminating a fundamental right from just one group - lesbian and gay Californians. Proposition 8 also improperly attempts to prevent the courts from exercising their essential constitutional role of protecting the equal protection rights of minorities. According to the California Constitution, such radical changes to the organizing principles of state government cannot be made by simple majority vote through the initiative process, but instead must, at a minimum, go through the state legislature first."
In this case, more power to the ACLU.
Another example of Religious Fundamentalism interfering with secular society.

 - Freedom Advocates - Fully Informed Jurors Need to Know of Jury Nullification...
Oct 19, 9:46am (25 reviews) liberties http://www.freedomadvocates.org/articles...- "Juror nullification is integral to our judicial system. It is one of the "checks and balances" of justice required by a free society. An individual juror has the authority to stop an unjust prosecution by refusing to convict. No reason for the verdict is required. Most Grand and Petit Jurors do not know about their authority. This authority must be restored to protect us."
I had never heard of this - the vast majority of the time it's likely that, unless a judge informs a Jury of this 'authority', Jurors are not familiar with this facet of the judicial system.
A good thing or a bad thing? Juror Nullification can be used both ways, can't it? I can think of one instance in recent history where a jury "acquitted" what most of the nation had judged to be a blatant murderer ... and that was that. Whether it was called 'nullification' or 'acquittal', the results were the same.
