Yobaba I like this

Yobaba is a 57 year old married woman from Portland, Oregon, USA.
"Everyday, think as you wake up, today I am fortunate to be alive, I have a precious human life, I am not going to waste it. I am going to use all my energies to develop myself, to expand my heart out to others; to achieve enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. I am going to have kind thoughts towards others, I am not going to get angry or think badly about others. I am going to benefit others as much as I can." - Dalai Lama

Awesome post stolen in its entirety:

"What happens if you get sick in the US and you don't have insurance?

Well, hope it's not serious because if it is, you're probably going to die. No Cheneycare for you! Next!

I'm really sick of ignorant people talking about "socialized medicine." As if socialism is some evil creature and moreover, as if Western Europe doesn't exist AND if it did...well it's not like they live in democracies. Oh wait. EVER OTHER developed country has universal health coverage for its citizens, and I'm supposed to sit and pretend that somehow, treating all citizens equally and defending their right to life by ensuring basic health care is available for all citizens is some evil concept.

Not going to do it anymore. We've been brainwashed by the Republican party to believe we can't ask for ANYTHING in return for all the taxes we pay. Instead, they pretend to lower taxes. What they are really doing is making us all resentful of paying a fair share of taxes, and letting Republican politicians take away what we are supposed to be getting in return for those funds. They gut federally funded programs like basic infrastructure repairs and construction (bridge collapse, anyone?), education and other essentials, all the while collecting a nice FAT ASS SALARY FROM YOUR TAXES. Sure, countries in Western Europe pay a hefty amount for their taxes. But when they calculate what they would spent out of pocket for health care, education, transportation (because, remember, Europe has some of the best, most extensive public transit in the world)...they don't complain about paying out in taxes. France and Germany alone provide far better medical care for a significantly lower price. And don't be fooled by Repuglican rhetoric. France alone has an incredibly high standard of care and research that is the envy of any developed country. They perform organ transplants just like in the U.S. In fact, in Lyon, surgeons performed the world's first double hand transplant. Tell me that's not impressive!

It's time for average Americans to stand up against these thugs and bullies who tell us we can't demand services back for our taxes lest we become socialists. Stand up and tell it like it is -- nearly 66% of all Americans favor some sort of universal coverage. We need to stand up to the small minority of bullies that have taken our country hostage over the past eight years and tell them we won't be bullied anymore. Their mentalities have run this country into the ground. That alone should be proof their ideas have no merit."
